Matthew 6:9-13

“This, then, is how you pray:

Our Father in heaven,

 hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.”

Sometimes we have a hard time finding words to say in prayer to God. Jesus gave us a wonderful outline as to how to pray. Jesus has made it possible to reach out and talk with our God. No formalities just a conversation. I have on occasion when in a really rough spot pray the Lord’s prayer just as written, especially when I have anxiety take over my life. I repeat it until I can feel a calm taking the place of anxiety. Our Father in heaven, lets us know that even though He is a majestic and holy God, he is also personal and loving. Your kingdom come, refers to the spiritual reign of God. Your will be done, does not mean that we are relegating ourselves to fate but requesting that God’s will be accomplished here on earth as well as in heaven. When we pray, give us today our daily bread, we recognize that God is our provider and sustainer. Through the Holy Spirit God give us physical strength, courage, wisdom to help us navigate life here on earth. God is our provider, He wants a personal relationship with us, He uses His followers to accomplish what is needed here on earth. He does not do this because He can’t but because He wants us involved with things on earth as well as heaven. Are you praying for God come closer to you?

Dear Lord, thank you for this day that you have set before me. Help me to do your will and not my own. Remind me to stay in contact with you through prayer every day, multiple times a day. You are awesome and in control so help me to release my anxieties on you rather than to try and carry them all by myself. Lord, I pray this in your son’s name Amen.
