Luke 8:1-3

“After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.”

In these verses we see that Jesus did not degrade women but lifted them up to the joy of the fellowship and service. In the ancient Jewish culture, women were not allowed to be disciples of rabbis like men were. Jesus allowed them to travel with him to show that all people are equal under God. They supported Jesus with their own money. They wanted to show their support of him, some having been healed and some he had driven demons out of them. And he taught them right alongside the male disciples. It also showed that even if you’re not center stage, you are an important part of the kingdom. Do you support God and his followers even if you are not center stage?

Dear God, thank you that you love me as much as any man you have created. Help me to remember that I do not need to be center stage to help out in ministry. Give me you ears so that I might hear your voice. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
