1 John 1:1-4

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.”

First John was written by John, one of Jesus’ original disciples. There is some thought that he was ‘the disciple whom Jesus loved.” (John 21:20). He penned this letter when Christianity had been around more than a generation and was written to put believers back on track. He also wrote it to help the church to grow with sincere love for God and for each other just as Jesus had commanded. I find that there are times when it is hard for me to remember to show the love of Jesus. Have you ever found yourself frustrated standing in line or perhaps the checkout clerk is not very nice? I find my hardest time to show love is while driving, I actually have had friends send me comical memes related to road rage. Instead of being funny I find them to bring me angst, if others close to me see this it must be something I need to work on. But Jesus told us to love one another just as Jesus loves us. A good search of Scriptures of patience and love, help to change my perspective. Is there something you need to work on in order to show love to others?

Dear God, thank you for the reminders of your love and what your commandment of loving one another means. Help me to find patience and have your love flow through me. Help me to see through your eyes those around me. Give me strength to love others like you love me. I pray this through your Sons name, Amen.
