1 Corinthians 12:1-3

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uniformed. You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. Therefore, I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says, ‘Jesus is accursed!’ and no one can say that ‘Jesus is Lord ‘except by the Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in and with us once we are saved. This seals and certifies with an assuring pledge of our eternal state as His children. Jesus had said he would send the Spirit to be a friend, helper, comforter, counselor, and guide. In John 14:16 it says, “And I will ask my father, and he will send you another counselor to be with you forever.” The word counselor in Greek means one who is called alongside and has the idea of someone who encourages or exhorts. He takes up permanent residence in our hearts. Among the functions of the Spirit is to reveal the truth. He convinces us of the deity of Christ and of the resurrection. He convinces us of the truth of the reasons for Christ to come to this earth and die such a horrible death for us. Isn’t it amazing that God felt it was not enough just to send Christ to us but to also send a helper after he left. So that we may understand the truth of the death and resurrection of Jesus and to help lead us in our lives revealing truths to us to help us live a better life here on earth. What truths has the Spirit revealed to you?

Dear Lord, thank you for the Holy Spirit, help me to listen to him so that the truth can be revealed. Help me to love others as myself or as you loved us. Thank you that you do love us so much that you would send the counselor to us after Jesus’ death. Thank you that you are forever looking out for us. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
