1 Corinthians 13:1-3
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
Without love we are nothing. When we operate in the gifts that God has given us but do not have love in our hearts for those we help, we have nothing. It is more important to God above all things, for us to have love. The ultimate purpose of human existence is found in love. It is important for us to operate firstly in love before anything else. How can we care for others or ourselves if we do not have love. God loves us that is why he wants us to love. We have this awesome opportunity to love Him in return and to love others because we know that love changes everything. Our actions and gifts are made useful through love. We can accomplish very little without it. And even though people have different gifts, we all have a huge amount of love to offer as well. Are you showing the love of Jesus?
Dear God, thank you that you love me. Thank you that you want me to love you and others as you love me. Help me to see those around me as you do. Give me your guidance and mercy to help me to love without selfish gain. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
