Matthew 16:12
“Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Jesus gave the example of the yeast because when it is put in bread to make it rise, it invades the whole loaf. He was not talking to them about literal bread, but of the teachings of those who would try to mislead them with false teachings. A small deception can run like wildfire through a large group. The misleading teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees were leading many people astray. This might not seem to apply to us today, but we also must be on guard for dishonest teachings among us. We need to choose leaders of the church wisely, because teachings can have a big impact. Even with a small distortion of Scripture, it can lead to wrong teaching and mislead others away from the Lord. Are you misled about something?
Dear Lord, thank you that you watch over me. Help me to keep my thoughts and learnings Bible based. Give me your wisdom to know the difference between truth and lies. Help me to teach others the truth. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
