John 1:1-5

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John, in these verses, focuses on the Word and the concept of what that means to him. This can be seen in different ways, in the Hebrew the Word was an agent of creation. In Greek the Word was the principle of reason that governed the world. Johns’ description shows clearly that he is speaking of Jesus, someone whom he had known and loved. These verses help me when my world is feeling a bit complex. It helps to ground me to the one who created the universe, it helps me realize that there is nothing to complicated in my life that God does not understand. When God created, he made something out of nothing. We must remember that the only reason we exist is because God made us. And he made the special gifts he has given us. If we try to live without him, we only abandon the purpose for which we were made. What is your purpose?

Dear God, thank you that you created me and love me. Help me to help others see their purpose, help me to see mine. Give me you love to show to others through me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
