Galatians 5:1

“It is for freedom that Christ has sent us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

When Jesus died for us on the cross, He set us free from sin and from a long list of regulations and laws. This does not mean that we can do whatever we want. This would lead us back to slavery to our selfish desires. We need to thank Christ for this freedom that allows us to be able to do things that were impossible before – to live unselfishly! When we choose to do what we want or indulge ourselves, we fall back into sin. Yes, we are not perfect and we still sin, but with Christ at our center we can work towards doing away with sin. God knows that we are not righteous on our own. We also need to stand up against those who would try to enslave us with rules, methods, and special conditions for being saved. The only way that we can be saved is through the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Are you enslaved to your sin?

Dear God, thank you for forgiving me. Help me to remember that it is not through my efforts or following of certain rules that I am saved. It is only through your Son that this is possible. Give me you heart to show others your mercy and love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
