Ephesians 2:6-10
“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
These verses are packed with the meaning of what it is that saves us. It is not by our effort or anything that we could possibly do. We become Christians through the grace of God. Our gratitude for this should cause our hearts to overflow with a desire to help and serve others with love, kindness, and gentleness. Even though no works are necessary to receive this salvation, God intends for it to create acts of service. When you feel the love or see the love that God gives his people, it is not hard to want to share this love with others. I admit it can be difficult at times, I struggle with it, life gets in the way, and I let everything else take over or I ignore the call to help others. But this I am trying to change through reading God’s word and seeing the works of others. Does your desire to help and serve others overflow your heart? Where can you start to show the love of God?
Dear God, thank you for your mercy. I love you so much and want to have the desire to always help others. Please help me to stop focusing on things that are not of you and focus on those who need love, kindness, and gentleness. Thank you that your mercy exceeds anything that I could do on my own. Thank you for my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
