Romans 6:8-11

“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised for the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, He died to sin once and for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

In chapter 6, Paul assures us that that God has broken the power of sin. What does that mean for us? That we have joined Christ in His baptism and have been united with Him in His death. Our evil desires and slavery to sin with Him have gone. Does this mean that we will never sin again? No, we are still imperfect human beings, but it does mean we have the ability to put aside sin, to leave it behind at the cross. It is only through the help of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit that we can accomplish this. This ability to leave sin behind allows us to have a relationship with Him and to do His will. All our activities are affected by this such as, work and worship, play, studying the bible, time spent caring for others and quiet time. We are also assured that we need not fear death. We have a new oneness with Christ and the Holy Spirit will help us to become all that Christ declared we would be. What’s your relationship with Christ?

Dear Lord, thank you for dying on the cross for my sin. Help me to put my sin behind me and to pursue the relationship that we have. Please give me your eyes and ears to see those around me who might be struggling, give me wisdom and words to speak to show your love for them. I pray this through Jesus’ name, Amen.
